Timeline
Fallout: Revitalized takes place in an alternate timeline from the Canon Fallout. This is to allow creative freedom for its creators in order to create a better Tabletop Roleplaying Game experience. The more freedom a TTRPG can offer players, the better. Hence, Fallout: Revitalized has elected to count certain events as canon which Bethesda has not, decanonized some of Bethesda's changes, and create some new lore atop these changes.
The idea is to smooth out the rough transition occurring in the lore due to Interplay's death, allow for some things Interplay couldn't show/do due to time/money to have occurred, and most importantly, make the actions of player characters matter by allowing the world to change for the better... or the worse, depending on what kind of person the players choose to be.
To allow GMs to understand what is added and what is changed, items marked with a ⚙ are changes to base cannon, while items marked with a ★ are additions. Items marked with ☢ are events from non-canon or canceled sources which Fallout: Revitalized considers canon.
Pre-War
- 2053
- A disease called the New Plague or the Blue Flu killed approximately 200,000 citizens in the United States, largely in Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs. Due to the rapid spread and death toll throughout the country, a national quarantine was put in place in by the end of 2053, and several emergency programs were established to find a cure for the plague.
- 2054
- The Euro-Middle Eastern War, the New Plague, and the collapse of the United Nations causes a nation wide panic about the end of the world. In response, the government began Project Safehouse massive national defense endeavor was intended to create shelters that would protect the population in the event of a nuclear war or plague. Breakthroughs in construction techniques allow for these gargantuan bunkers to be constructed at a rapid pace.
- 2053
- West Tek started to develop a cure for the plague, establishing the West Tek Research Facility. The government used the paranoia surrounding the virus to discourage assemblies, fuel anti-communist sentiment, and encourage informing government forces of suspected subversive elements. The government further used New Plague to register civilians, claiming a symptom of the plague was "socialist thoughts" and advocating isolation: people should stay indoors, read books, and avoid "ice cream socials."
- 2062
- A second major outbreak of the New Plague occurs, fueling national paranoia. Government suppression ensued, with some being imprisoned for carrying the virus.
- The Automated Utility Service Telecommunications Internal Network is built as part of AUstin's "City of Tomorrow!" project (Sponsored by Vault-Tec). The AI is installed within a vault-like facility beneath the city of Austin, TX to manage the city's resource consumption and provide basic services to the general public such as information requests, directions, and other such conveniences.
- 2062
- Project Safehouse is well on its way, but over budget. The central control facility of the network Vault 0 is compleated, and a cybernetic intelligence dubbed The Calculator is created to manage the facility. The facility is truly impressive, including terraforming technology, robot production facilities, and even cryonic-suspension chambers to allow VIPs to ride out a disaster and rebuilding efforts. However, the construction of Vault 0 and the Calculator push the project too far over budget. The Government sells Project Safehouse to Vault-Tec, and Vault 0 is largly mothballed though left in an active state to serve as a presidential bunker.
- 2072
- Vault-Tec creates the subsidiary Sea-Tec to test the viability of aquatic habitation of earth, as well as deep sea mining. Sea-Tec begins constructing its first facilities off the coast of Orange, TX using a deep sea platform as its headquarters.
- Poseidon Energy sells the advanced AI ODYSSEUS to the US Government, who placed the AI in charge of a prison for containing individuals exposed to biological weapons or radiation in Denver or in the Yangtze Campaign. As part of this task, it was given access to orbital weapons platforms and orders to nuke the prison and surrounding areas in the event of an escape or outbreak of the New Plague. This prompts its creator Dr. Greenway to quit in protest and begin work on a second AI of the same class called "Diana".
- 2075
- The first strain of FEV is created in an attempt to create a mutagen that can render humans immune to the New Plague. Experiments on laboratory animals show FEV exposure to increase aggression, size, and strength, prompting the US Government to pivot the project to bioweapons.
- Sea-Tec finishes constructing its initial test facilities and begins to develop their key projects including deep sea mining crawlers, sea-bed habitation modules, and other technologies related to long-term habitation of the sea floor.
- Austin expands their city AI's capabilities by adding robots to its systems, as well as the facilities to repair, construct, and maintain them. The reported purpose is to allow the AI to take over some basic city functions like litter cleanup and mail delivery, but the AI is also tasked with spying on the populous to search for communist sympathizers.
- 2077
- Dr. Jake Robertson's proposal to develop a direct-application bioweapon exploiting an unstable FEV strain's "random" mutations is approved by the US Government. The project is codenamed "Chimera" and its FEV strain is dubbed "Echidna" (AKA FEV-E) after the mother of the Chimera from greek mythology. Project Chimera is granted the use of a remote laboratory in Halletsville, TX. The lab is fitted with a nuclear warhead to use as a self destruct incase of a containment breach. At Dr. Robertson's request, the warhead is modified into a shaped charge so the blast will be directed upwards, destroying the lab but allowing anyone who escaped to survive the blast on the surface.
- 2077
- Project Chimera successfully modifies FEV-E to work on contact with living tissue, without the need to fully immerse a subject within the mutagen. Additionally, the strain proves to be capable of taking DNA from one species and using it as the base for its mutations within a second species (IE, if a dog ate a rabbit mutated by FEV-E, the dog's resulting mutations would be based on the rabbit's DNA.). As little as 0.03 cubic centimeters proves to be sufficient to cause mutation within hours. Several researchers quit the project citing safety concerns.
The Great War
- October 23, 2077
- Project Chimera seals its laboratory when the alarm is sounded, trusting in its Vault-like construction to serve as a fallout shelter.
- The majority of long range warheads targeting the Gulf Coast of Texas are shot down thanks to the rocket tracking systems at the Johnson Space Center and the expert fire coordination of Director Alba Simmons. Most of the missile interceptors are destroyed by the short range munitions of Chinese subs int he gulf of Mexico, who then turn their remaining weapons on the Space Center. The Space Center itself is saved due to experimental laser based misscile countermeasures which had been designed to ensure wayward rockets could be destroyed before they could pose any danger to Houston.
- The USS Dallas under the command of Captain Ramirez engages stealthed Chinese submarines off the coast of Houstin. After depleting their munitions, Captain Ramirez elects to ram the final Chinese vessel, destroying it before it could fire a high-yield nuclear warhead into the heart of Houston. Both vessels sink to the sea bed a short distance from the Sea-Tec facility. Radioactive fule from both vessels contaminates the area, killing most Sea-Tec personnel and forcing the rest to flee to the surface.
- A group of communist rebels take shelter within the Houston metro tunnels, and become trapped due to cave ins.
- A few people who happen to be present at Vault 0 enter cryonic suspension to ride out the war.
- The Automated Utility Service Telecommunications Internal Network in Austin is knocked offline by EMP, but successfully reboots. Its programming is slightly scrambled, causing it to belive it is the city of Austin and its primary task is the well being of its residents. It begins serving as a natural helper for survivors in the city.
- A remote hippie commune calling itself The Botanicals runs into Austin during the attack to save everyone and every animal they can. They become so beloved by the survivors as well as Austin and its robots that they are asked to stay in town. The Botanicals decide they should stick closer to town given the circumstances and move into the surprisingly intact St. Edwards Park. They further supprise the locals by caring for Austin's robots as reverently and tenderly as people and animals, apparently seeing robots as lifeforms on par with animals.
Post-War
- 2077
October
- Isolated, without food, and without water, the communist rebels in the metros turn to cannibalism, but only once. The trauma of the event is so great they go mad. They come to believe that humanity is fundamentally evil and God willed humanity's end in Atomic Fire. They are eventually rescued by remnants of the Houston fire department, who they promptly kill. The group declares itself as the Red Line, a pseudo-religion based on the idea that humanity's time is over and that all survivors must be purged.
November
- Groups of survivalists emerge from their personal fallout shelters. Many of them understand the need to band together to survive and begin to form various tribes. One of which decides to round up as many cattle as possible, knowing that controlling a food supply will mean power in this new world. They split into several smaller clans after realizing there isn't any one place with enough grass to feed all of their cattle, leading to the establishment of many small ranches. These ranches come to be known as the Cowboy Collective by the locals.
- Surviving Sea-Tec personnel regroup in Orange, TX and meet up with a group of Civil War reenactors who happened to be reenacting the Battle of Palmito Ranch when the Great War occured. In exchange for food, the Sea-Tec scientists tell the reenactors about their ocean facility, remarking it should be safe for long term habitation in a few months once the fule spill settles out and offering to set them all up within the facility if they keep them safe and fed. The reinactors agree.
December
- Project Chimera's hold a vote on to venture out or wait for rescue. As the lab contained an emergency food supply for 8 months they elect to wait for rescue as RAD levels are still quite high. They attempt to radio for assistance but their communications are down due to their radio tower being destroyed.
- 2077
- Project Chimera, realizing that the nuclear war's devastation must have destroyed the US government, or they had been written off as dead, elect to destroy their facility to prevent any possible FEV contamination of US soil. They set the self destruct and depart into the wasteland. The shaped nuclear charge blows the FEV-E into the atmosphere, failing to boil the liquid as it vaporises, and thereby contaminating a large region of the Texas Badlands. Mutations set in within weeks, leading to locals starting to call the area "a land of monsters".
- The reenactors move into the now-approachable Sea-Tec aquatic habitation modules, quickly learning how to survive with the aid of the surviving scientists. The group decides to wait for conditions on the surface to improve and use their technology to found a new nation, taking on the name "The Gulf Coast Confederacy" since the CSA side had won the Battle of Palmito Ranch, and they planed on establishing their nation as a confederation.
- Surviving scientists within the Johnson Space Center are able to re-purpose the Center's anti-rocket laser array into an anti-infantry array to protect themselves from raiders. After some debate they decide to attempt to contact the US's various space stations in the hopes of retrieving the astronauts. They are unsuccessful, but come to realize that some of the only uncontaminated seeds in the world will be those stored on various space stations for scientific experiments. They begin plans to attempt a retrieval, but without external supplies calculate they will be unable to reach space for several generations. A vow is made to not only retrieve the uncontaminated seeds, but return humanity to the stars. Locals take to calling the NASA personnel the "Space Pioneers" in a joking fashion.
- 2083
- The mutants and monsters living within the area around Project Chimera become so dangerous that the few non-mutated survivors are forced to flee the region. Their stories of terrifying scorpion-people, wingless dragons with claws like swords, and fire breathing ants spread across the wasteland, earning the region the name "Monsterland".
- Remnants of the Lonestar Militia settle in Camp Mabry on outskirts of Austin, Texas. They elect themselves as Austin's protectors and overlords, coming into conflict with Austin (the AI) as well as the general citizenry. The militia is able to keep hold of their new base, and become a part of the city in short order.
- 2089
- A loose alliance of various technically-adept wastelanders located within The Woodlands, a community north of Houston, join forces and technologies to found a safe home. Calling themselves The Houston Technocracy this new group elects to create the best possible standard of living for its people, then turn their attention to expanding their territory, influence, and wealth when possible.
- The Automated Utility Service Telecommunications Internal Network, now called Austin by its citizens, is formally appointed as the Mayor of Austin after it successfully safeguards the populous, secures food and water, and constructs basic shelters for its citizens. Austin has no problem with its citizens having factions and deciding the rules and laws of their "Neighborhoods", but does promise it will intervene to stop violence within the city. Which it does, swiftly and brutally. Often by having its robots carry aggressors outside of the city limits to "take it outside". As a result, Austin becomes a location known as a neutral ground where members of all kinds of groups intermingle, share ideas, and otherwise cohabitate.
- 2104
- A nomadic group of aging railway workers and engineers decide to park the train they called home for the last time. They settle in Texas City, at the Nustar Transit Station. The younger people in their group decide to repair the station's trains, and begin using them to earn a living by transporting goods, people, and messages along the still intact railways. The group is originally believed to be a part of the Bayou Raiders, leading to someone saying something to the effect "If anything, we're railway raiders!", and the name stuck.
- 2196
- Members of Gammorin's supermutant army stumble uppon Vault 0 and awaken the Calculator. Damaged from its long dormancy, and not having been built all that well in the first place, the Calculator begins to purge all organic life around itself, believing them to be Communist chinese troops invading the US as none of the wastelanders has valid US identification cards, nor are on file in its databases.
- 2196
- The Calculator's holocaust is stopped by The Warrior, who after uniting the entirety of the mid-west's many factions behind them, realizes the Calculator's not hostile, but broken and understands what good it can do if repaired. The Warrior sacrifices themselves by having their brain implanted into one of the Calculator's organic-interfaces, replacing a rotting brain which prevented the Calculator from making use of its organic intelligences. Now repaired and able to reason, the Calculator begins its assigned task of rebuilding the world, taking into account the cultures which have arisen in the last century. The area around Vault 0 becomes known as "The Calculator's Dominion" as the cyborg uses its terraforming technology to create habitable places and oversees them as a protector.
- 2229
- A large group of Assaultrons achieves sapience, much like the ZAX computers their hardware was based on. Shortly after the Broken Mask incident occurs. Fearing humans will take the event as an excuse to destroy any intelligent robot, the Assultrons flee the Commonwealth, searching for a safe home. Save for one of their number, KL-E-0 who elects to remain in the Commonwealth. The remainder go on to found the Ironwood Collective in the northern Texas Badlands.
- 2131
- The Thinker Nightkin break off from the Master's Army and found their own society on the belief that humans and mutants can and should work together for their mutual benefit. These Nightkin are eventually driven east and go on to found the Mutant Integration and Liberation Front in the Texas Badlands.
- 2229
- Leonard Boyarsky's experiments with Vault City's reproduction cycles are discovered before he commits murder to hide them. THe Overseer is persuaded by Leonard to allow him to continue the experiments after he proves humanity's long term survival depends on adapting to the wasteland. Leonard's experiments go on to create adaptation-based mutations which spread to most humans on the West Coast within 3 generations.
- A small faction of the Lonestar Militia breaks away and takes over the Capitol Building in Austin, TX. Calling themselves the Crimson Senators, their reported goal is to establish control over all of pre-war Texas and return the state to glory.
- 2241
- Following an increase in raider attacks, Vault City elects to join with the NCR and the Bishop family of New Reno for mutual protection.
- 2242
- The Intelligent Deathclaws of Vault 13 are saved from slaughter by the Chosen One, who had chosen to make a pilgrimage to their grandfather's home (Vault 13). The Chosen One's distraction allows Goris to slay Frank Horrigan. The two become the tribe's heroes, which renames themselves the "Tribe of Goris" in his honor, and vow to help the Chosen One's people in return for their part in the rescue.
- The Chosen One, Goris, Xarn, and several other deathclaw warriors attack the Enclave at Control Station ENCLAVE, freeing the Chosen One's tribe from slavery and putting an end to Enclave activities on the West Coast.
- After the Enclave's destruction, the Chosen one and their people are welcomed into the Tribe of Goris. Together, the two groups resettle Vault 13, making use of the Garden of Eden Creation Kit to transform the area around the Vault into a paradise. The new settlement grows and prospers under the leadership of the Chosen One, eventually joining the NCR.
- The town of Geko is absorbed into Vault City, granting the NCR access to Geko's nuclear reactor. After a successful operation to repair parts of the California power grid by the Chosen One, most of the NCR and its allies have access to electricity.
- 2245
- The Thinker Nightkin arrive in the Texas Badlands and discover its many different types of mutants, all of whom are rejected and outcast like they were. Outraged at the injustice they found the Mutant Integration and Liberation Front to champion the rights of mutants of all kinds. Many of the Texan mutants join their cause, as do some humans.
- 2249
- The Caulclator's ongoing terraforming efforts have begun to spill outwards from its Domain, breathing life into the regions around the central US. While it is not capable of restoring pre-war biomes even within its borders, the new life breathed into the world begins to heal the scars of the Great War after 171 years of there being nothing but wasteland. Wastelanders of all types rejoice, and many places are rechristened as "Badlands" as they begin to be somewhat hospitable.
- The Blue Destiny Brothel does not fail to separate drinking water from pooping water, and thus, does not get destroyed in a cholera outbreak. Because humans are not that filthy or stupid.
- 2253
- A mad scientist by the name of Dr. Victor Presper attempts to use a quarantine prison, a ballistic satellite called B.O.M.B.-001, and a virus called New Plague to cleanse the world of its inhabitants and start anew with a select group of pure-blooded humans. Their plan was foiled by The Prisoner who killed Dr. Presper abord B.O.M.B.-001 before he could launch his missiles, after stopping the spread of the New Plague.
- The Tibe of Goris's first generation of co-raised Deathclaws and Human children reach the age of 10, and show interesting developments. The human children have no fear nor hatred for deathclaws, while the deathclaws express horror at the thought of killing a human to eat them (but do admit they'd eat one who was already dead). Longterm coexistence appears to be possible.
- The four largest tribes of mutant humans within the Texas Badlands form a loose alliance to protect one another from the many monstrous creatures inhabiting the region around them. Their alliance is learned about by other groups and jokingly dubbed the "United Tribes of Monsterland".
- 2257
- The Ironwood Collective arrives in Palestine, Texas and upon discovering it to be free of humans, fairly isolated, and containing the ruined offices and laboratories of a pre-war tech company, settle the area, renaming it "Ironwood".
- 2271
- The Tribe of Goris, now fully integrated into the NCR as citizens, first generation of co-raised children come of age. To the supprise of everyone of both species, a small number of the younger generation paires off as couples. This minority is treated a bit negatively, but not overly so as most people can understand how humans and claws who see no cultural differences between them might share some feelings for eachother. Other NCR groups learn of this and are outraged, but are eventually quieted by a speech from the NCR's president reminding the members that each state in the republic is entitled to live under its own ways, provided they keep to their shared laws. The Tribe Elders do not like the negative attention the young have brought their tribe and attempt to encourage the couples to separate. This is met with extreme backlash from the entire younger generation, such that the elders abandon their attempts.
- 2273
- Caesar's Legion attempts an attack on The Calculator's Dominion, only to be smashed utterly by the Calculator's robot armies. Low on men, supplies, and combat veterans, it pulls its forces towards the Mojave, seeking its conquest with more urgency than previously due to needing its resources to repair itself.
- 2274
- With the Legion amassing what appears to be the majority of its military on the edge of the Mojave, Mr. House sends a messenger to the NCR, claiming to want to begin negotiations for a mutual defense pact and offering the possibility of gaining access to all of the water the Hoover Dam can supply which Vegas does not need regardless of the defense pact if the NCR can help them out this one time with the massing Legion. President Aaron Kimball of the NCR orders a full occupation of the Hoover Dam in response and talks begin. The NCR, able to manufacture combat vehicles thanks to the residents of Vault City are able to keep the Mojave region safe with regular and easy patrols.
- The NCR's scientists are baffled when three of Tribe Goris's interspecies couples are able to have children. The children are examined and it is discovered that the adaptation mutations spread to humans in 2232 by Dr. Boyarsky interact with an uncommon FEV mutation found in some deathclaws, allowing the species to hybridize. The hybrid children appear to be healthy, and blend the features of the intelligent deathclaws with those of humans. Their existence causes more outrage in the same NCR groups which objected previously, but removes all animosity from the Tribe of Goris, who take the hybrid children as a sign from the gods that their species are meant to coexist.
- 2275
- The NCR comes into conflict with the Mojave chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel. The East Cost Brotherhood, a full member of the NCR's military, declares the Mojave chapter to be heretics. A brief conflict occurs with the Mojave chapter being outmatches and driven out of the area. They flee east, and settle just outside the Texas Badlands in the ruins of Dallas and San Antonio.
- 2277
October
- A Vault Dweller known by the moniker "the Lone Wanderer" leaves Vault 101 in search of their missing father, and inadvertently destroys the Enclave's presence on the East Coast, while simultaneously purifying the waters of the DC Tidal Basin via activating Project Purity. They are hailed as the Capital Wasteland's greatest hero.
December
- The Lone Wanderer is abducted by Zetan forces, who have long been checking in on Earth and meddling in its affairs. They destroy the alien menace abord their own vessel, but in their attempts to return to Earth they crash the ship into the northern edge of the Capital Wasteland. This catastrophe kills many wastelanders, but the survivors (including the Lone Wanderer) are able to use the wrecked ship to make a new city. Mothership Down becomes the DC Wasteland's new capital, making use of the surviving alien tech to become a dominant regional power. Though the Lone Wanderer is exiled for their hand in the disaster.
September
- A pack of Deathclaws moves into Quarry Junction after the Powder Gangers steal Sloan's dynamite supply; halting mining operations. Interstate 15 is subsequently closed off due to its proximity to Quarry Junction and the Deathclaws. A Desert Ranger who happens to be an Intelligent Deathclaw negotiates with the pack, they refuse to leave, but agree to leave the travelers along I15 alone. The Querry remains closed, but trade is unaffected.
October
- A Courier carrying a package for Mr. house makes their way to the Mojave Badlands. They are ambushed by a group of Great Kahns hired by Benny in an attempt to pull the rug out from under Mr. House. The plot fails due to an NCR patrol chancing upon the Courier as they are about to be executed and intervening. The Chip is stolen by Benny in the confusion, and the Courier vows to retrieve it to preserve their honor and professionalism. They quickly recover the chip, but are attacked by their long-time rival Ulyssies, who chaces them across a large swath of the wasteland.
- 2279
- The Bayou Raiders, led by King Cajun, begin a campaign to concore Bay City. They are successful and The Cajun is elected High King for his critical roll in expanding the Raider's terratory.
- 2281
January
- With no other options, and no reason to delay their attack any longer, the Legion attacks the NCR at the Hoover Dam for a second time. They are killed to the last by the NCR troops and their BoS elites, because melee tools and sporting equipment is no match for power armor, laser guns, and bullets when your numbers advantage is entirely negated by a choak point like, you know, the top of a dam. Caesar survives, having been away from the front to receive treatment for his tumor from his remaining friends within the Followers of the Apocalypse. He is able to escape the Mojave and returns to rule over the remaining Legion forces in Flagstaff.
February
- After being chased through the Sierra Madre Casino, Zion Canyon, Big Mountain, and Hopeville, the Courier and Ulyssies have a final battle within a launch control center for a still-loaded pre-war nuclear silo. Ulyssies is defeated, but not before activating the launch system. The Courier is able to disarm half of the missiles, but the other half fire, devastating most of the Mojave region. Defeated, they take the chip to Mr. House, who fortunately survived the strike along with the western half of the Mojave. Mr. House's Securatron Bunker survived the attack, allowing him to awaken his army and assume full control over the remains of the Mojave, with the Courier serving at his side seeking to help rebuild in penance for their failure.
May
- Even with the Securatrons, Mr. House is not able to combat the might of the NCR. He is offered an ultimatum, join the NCR or be kept a prisoner with the strip serving as his solitary confinement cell. He agrees to join, and becomes an advisor to the NCR government.
August
- Joshua Graham and the Courier hunt down Caesar, and assassinate him in his palace in Flagstaff. Joshua claims the Legion for himself with the Courior's blessing.
- 2284
- The hybrid deathclaws prove to be skilled hunters and possess a notable diplomatic gift even at the age of 10, which appears to be their age of biological maturity (A deathclaw's being 6). The NCR's scientific community is fascinated by what they believe to be the first successful recombination between FEV mutants, enough for them to get the NCR to grant the children and their families protection from the groups which continue to see them as abominations. Events come to a head when a terrorist attempts to firebomb a school the hybrids attend, killing many ordinary human children in the process. The general public is outraged and begin to riot, demanding the government do something to protect its citizens from extremist groups. The NCR responds by creating a group of specialized police called Street Sentinels, who are authorized to deal with violence and potential terrorism with extreme force. More peaceful solutions are also implemented, including the standardization of "Mutant History and Rights" courses in NCR schools.
- 2287
- Following in the tradition of randomly wandering Vault Dwellers, Nora, the Soul Survivor of Vault 111 turns a quest to find their kidnapped child into gaining control of one of the most powerful scientific institutions in post-war America, The Institute. She rather dislikes their vaguely evil largely inconsiderate ways, but knows that as the director she can steer them down the right path. With a little bit of diplomacy, a few 10mm rounds provided by her wife Ada, and help from her loyal army of Synths, Nora takes over the Institute not only as Director, but as Queen of the Commonwealth. As the region's absolute monarch, she begins to return life to the wasteland. A cult forms around her thanks to the efforts of her friend and trusted advisor Lorenzo Cabot, who claims to have made Nora into an immortal god-queen.
